Twelve-year-old Addy Elwood has turned her love of baking into a thriving business, Addy Cakes!

Twelve-year-old Addy Elwood has turned her love of baking into a thriving business, Addy Cakes! Along with her friend Sofia, Addy brings homemade desserts to the Green Cove Springs, FL market, using family recipes and creative packaging to delight customers.

CEM: Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?

Addy: I love baking desserts. My mom had the idea for the business name from the old song “Pat-a-cake”, so the name Addy Cakes was perfect for a dessert business!

CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of them?

Addy: Most of the baking supplies come from the grocery store and the packaging is ordered online. My grandma helps make the stickers for the packaging and all of the buttercream is made from passed down family recipes!

CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?

Addy: A big challenge was figuring out how to keep the desserts from melting. We now put them in coolers with frozen water bottles.

Sofia: Putting the cupcakes into their containers was a big challenge at first! It took a lot of practice to figure out how to put them in without messing them up.

CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?

Addy: Try what you can and have fun with whatever you do–it makes it more fun! Go big!

CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?

Addy: Instagram or Facebook
