Meet Jaela and Hadley, two creative sisters who turned their crochet lessons with grandma into a thriving handmade business. Jaela crafts adorable crocheted animals, while Hadley designs stylish earrings—each finding their own unique path. With help from their parents and a lot of trial and error, they’ve learned what their customers love and continue to grow their business one stitch and bead at a time.
CEM: Tell us about your business? How did you first get the idea?
Their grandma taught them how to crochet. Jaela thought it came easy and Hadley did not. Jaela decided to keep crocheting cute little animals and Hadley decided to make and sell earrings.
CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going?
We needed beads, earrings, yarn, stuffing, hooks and stitch markers. We used some of our own money and our parents helped us too.
Once we made some of our own money we paid them back some of it.
CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced in business and how did you overcome them?
Figuring out what people liked and wanted to buy. They like dangling earrings more than hoops so we made more dangling earrings. They also like the fluffy yarn more so we made more items with the softer fluffy yarn.
CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Keep trying and don’t give up even if you get frustrated.
CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?
We don’t have a website right now so you can just email our parents at Jeremyandstacey@gmail.com
