Bethany, 11, was a participant in San Antonio this year! We loved the story behind her booth, and we think you will too!
Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?
Bethany: I started on my business by seeing this kid on TV. I told my mom I wanted to do the same thing he was doing. He was buying toys for homeless kids. We needed money to buy all those toys, so I started my own business. We went to all sorts of stores, and I was able to fill a big cargo truck from Christian Assistance Ministry. My mission from there was to continue helping non-profits through the sales of my crafts.
What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of them?
Bethany: We started by selling plants. This lady offered to donate her plants for my cause. She allowed us to pick a lot of succulents from her home business. Then we started growing a lot of them to sell and raise money for the non-profits I was interested in.
What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?
Bethany: I used to only sell succulents, and I realized adults were my main customers. I pivoted and started selling things that everybody could enjoy. I have slime, bracelets, my delicious sugar and cinnamon pretzels, bookmarks, sand art, and we still have some plants.
Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Bethany: Anybody can have a business, no matter how young you are. You have to keep pushing and working hard, and some day you will have your own company.
How can potential customers get in touch with you?
Bethany: Potential customers can contact me through Instagram at SeedsofGrace1 or on Facebook at ActsforSmiles. You can message my mom through there.
Thank you for chatting with us, Bethany! Keep up the great work!
