Meet Matthew and Addie, siblings who own Sugar Kids! We spoke with them at our market in Marana, AZ recently. Their juice pouches were a BIG hit with customers. Check out what they had to say about their business!
Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?
Matthew: I always used to make juice with my dad all the time!
What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of them?
Matthew: Mostly fruit, the stickers, the bags for it so it would stay cool.
Tell us about your stickers!
Matthew: So we bought the stickers, and we printed them. We made sure to get the waterproof ones since they would be in the cooler the whole time so they wouldn’t dissolve.
What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?
Matthew: Trying to get the right fruit for it. Like for the watermelon, one of them wasn’t the most red and then when I noticed it, the smaller one had more red in the watermelon. The bigger one had more like white-ish red-ish.
Did your parents know how to pick good watermelon, or how did you learn how to do that?
Matthew: My dad, he knows how to pick them good!
Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Matthew: Don’t give up, keep doing it!
How can potential customers get in touch with you?
Matthew: This is our first time doing this, so we don’t have social media yet, but my mom does!
