Meet 9-year-old Beckham, who is the owner of not one, but TWO successful businesses! Beckham is a frequent flier at our Dallas/Fort Worth markets. His first business was a hot chocolate spoon business, and he used funds from that to start a t-shirt business as well. Read our interview with this inspiring young entrepreneur below:
CEM: Tell us about your businesses. How did you first get the idea?
Beckham: I have wanted my own business since I was 6 years old. I wanted to make money like my Mom and Dad, and I wanted to make something that people would love. My friends already loved my hot chocolate spoons and hot cocoa bombs, so it made sense to start selling those.
CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of them?
Beckham: It was a lot of trial and error because I realized that I needed high quality chocolate for the look and texture to be just right. My parents helped me, and we tested every chocolate we could find. They loaned me about $500 to get everything I needed, including chocolate molds, packaging, chocolates, sprinkles, etc. I was able to pay them back after my first month and one Entrepreneur Market!
CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?
Beckham: I had a lot of mess ups in the beginning, but I actually was able to talk to an experienced chocolate maker, and that helped me to figure out what I was doing wrong. I also realized that my business was seasonal and that no one wants hot chocolate in the summer. I still had a few expenses (website fees), so I decided to open another business to supplement my hot chocolate business. I am now creating t-shirt designs and making t-shirts using vinyl and sublimation.
CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Beckham: Make sure you do something that you love doing and creating. If you love it, it won’t feel like work. It will be fun! Dream big and never give up!
CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?
Beckham: My websites are www.tastytreats.store and www.wildskydesigns.net I also have an Etsy shop here.
Thank you for sharing your story with us Beckham! Keep up the great work!
