Meet 11-year-old Annalisa and 9-year-old Daniel, owners of The Dynamic Duo’s Doggie Delights! They have been frequent fliers at our Dallas/Fort Worth area markets, and their homemade dog treats and free samples have helped them make many new canine friends. Read all about their dog-themed business below:
CEM: Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?
Dynamic Duo: We wanted to come up with a business idea that would be fun and do well at the markets. Since we love dogs, we thought it would be a good fit.
CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of them?
Dynamic Duo: Our parents already had a canopy, a table, and a tablecloth they said we could use. We also needed ingredients, bakery bags, and labels, and we decided to also get a cash box, booth banners, signs, and a logo. With our mom’s help, we were able to develop our logo on a free app. We were able to get everything else for a good price from Amazon, Costco, or Kroger. We did extra chores and saved for ten months to cover all of our costs to get started.
CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?
Dynamic Duo: It took time to find and develop the right recipe. The first one we tried wasn’t very good. Also, it took us several days to bake enough treats to sell at our first market. Our dad helped us industrialize our process. We used our first market’s earnings to buy equipment we could use to mass produce treats, and we can now make enough products for a market in four or five hours. It has made our business a lot more fun and less stressful!
CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Annalisa: I would say find your passion and don’t forget it, just keep going no matter what.
Daniel: And do not ever lose hope! If you lose hope, you might lose everything. If you lose hope, success might have just been around the corner from you, but you won’t get it.
Annalisa: Remember not to take too many breaks! You can make a lot of money if you’re willing to work hard.
CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?
Dynamic Duo: You’ll often see us at markets all over the Dallas/Fort Worth area! You can also order our products at doggiedelights@proton.me. We offer 20% off dog treats for online orders: $8 for a 10 oz bag, and $4 for a 5 oz bag. Our upcycled blue jean dog toys are $2.
Thank you for interviewing with us, Annalisa and Daniel! Good luck with your business, and we hope to see you at another market soon.
