Meet Selah, a 13-year-old entrepreneur from Henrico, VA, who turned a church camp idea into a creative tutu business! Learn how she mastered the art of tutu-making, overcame challenges, and inspires others to follow their dreams.

Selah, 13, blew us away with her creative tutu booth in Henrico, VA this year! Check out what she has to say about her experience as a kidpreneur!

Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?

Selah: I was going to a summer camp with my church and I was going to make a tutu to wear for a themed night. I was talking to my mom and thought this might be a fun business idea.

What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of your supplies?

Selah: Tulle for the tutu part and elastic ribbon for the waist and I tie the tulle around it. I also needed a cutting board, scissors to cut the tulle, a ruler, a needle and thread to stitch the waist band. I got them at a store and ordered some materials online.

What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?

Selah: Well it’s very time consuming to make one tutu. You have cut the tulle, stitch the waist band, tie each strip of tulle and make the bow. Also knowing how to cut it the right length. I solved it by researching skirt lengths and getting better at it so it goes faster. YouTube videos helped me with cutting multiple stripes at once because people do this as an actual business so I just used their ideas with cutting.

Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?

Selah: Keep following your dreams, don’t give up.

How can potential customers get in touch with you?

Selah: I’ll try to be at as many markets as I can!

What an inspiring booth! We loved having you as a part of the market, Selah, and hope to see you again next year!
