We ran into best friends Camila and Natalya at the Arlington County Fair market running what was only their third time running their booth! Their professional set up told us they had clearly learned a lot and learned quickly, so we scored an interview to get their mindset!
Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?
Camila: Well, I saw that my school was hosting a winter market, and I really wanted to do it – but I like to do things with my best friend, so we decided to go through it together since we both have a creative eye.
What supplies and resources did you need to get going?
Camila: Well we started with earrings and stickers, so we obviously needed sticker paper. We needed our drawing skills, so I use my ipad and she(Natalya) does traditional.
Natalya: I just use acrylic paint, wash, and then a lot of clay for my clay earrings.
Camila: Everything is handmade. So most of the supplies are either from like, Amazon or Michael’s.
What are some challenges you’ve faced in business and how did you overcome them?
Camila: I would say focusing on not giving up if business is slow. I think having a positive mindset. You want to be a glass half-full, not half-empty.
Natalya (any additional thoughts?): Nope, that’s it, she got it!
Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Camila: I would say make what you love. Because if you do that, it’s gonna sell. Don’t think about what’s going to sell, do what you love, because then it’s not as fun to do.
Natalya: Yes! Like she was saying, do what you’re passionate about, and it will sell.
How can potential customers get in touch with you?
We have our instagram, which is @DearBestFriendArts, and we also have a website on Etsy (under the same shop name!)
