Addison, 14, from Arizona blew us away with her unique, recycled metal artwork this season!
Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?
My dad is a welder and I have always been interested in it. He taught me how to weld and how to turn metal into art.
What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get a hold of them?
I specialize in using recycled or reclaimed metal. So I put an add in the local paper asking farriers if I could take their used horseshoes off of their hands. Most of them just gave me the horseshoes for free. I then search through junk shops and thrift stores to find other interesting pieces for cheap . . . like doorknobs, old metal tools, railroad ties. I use my some of my earnings from my markets to purchase these items.
What are some challenges you’ve faced in business and how did you overcome them?
My biggest challenge has been figuring out how to design a creation with the metal that I have found. But that is also what makes this so fun and exciting.
Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
Don’t give up. Find what you love and what will help your community and then just go for it. I love that my business helps me connect with my community, so I would suggest that you make that part of your goal.
How can potential customers get in touch with you?
You can find me at more Children’s Entrepreneur Markets.
Thanks for chatting with us, Addison!
