10-year-old Audrey is the owner of Audrey’s Little Shop, and her booth has been a huge hit with customers at our North Texas markets this year! Her beautiful and unique sewing creations have brought shoppers a lot of joy. We’re excited to share her story with you!

CEM: Tell us about your business. How did you first get the idea?

Audrey: Well, I learned to sew when I was about 8 by watching YouTube videos. For 2 years, I always wanted to sell my stuff and make people happy. So when I heard about these markets, I got very excited and started preparing right away! Also, my grandfather taught me a lot about business, and I thought it might be fun to start one.

CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going? How did you get ahold of them?

Audrey: I needed lots of stuffing, fabric, thread, and basic materials. Luckily, I had some birthday money saved. Also, my great-grandmother, who did a lot of sewing, sadly passed away in 2022, and I inherited lots of supplies, like fabric and stuffing. I also received fabric from another family member, my great-great grandmother, who had passed as well. A lot of my items are special because the supplies came from my great-grandmothers.

CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced in business, and how did you overcome them?

Audrey: Pricing can be challenging for me because I don’t really know how much my items are worth. Google Lens has helped me price them by seeing other similar items. Another challenge is that my items have to be in really good quality for people to buy them! It’s sometimes a lot to handle. But I think about the smile on someone’s face when they buy it and that helps.

CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?

Audrey: What I would say is to go with the flow at your markets. Sometimes, sales come quickly. Other times, they don’t and that’s ok! You might not sell much at one market and then sell all of your stuff at another! Just know that you made someone happy, and that’s all the payment you need.

CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?

Audrey: You can find me at markets in North Texas. I don’t have a website or social media yet, but I might soon.

Thank you for talking with us, Audrey! Keep up the great work, and we look forward to seeing you at future markets!
